Jim has spent his entire career in healthcare and has held leadership positions in hospital services, mental health, primary care and national policy. Hewas Chief Executive of York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a high performing 700 bed hospital in the north of England, and held the Chief Executive position for the South Central Strategic Health Authority, responsible for the delivery of all healthcare services to a population of 5 million.
In 2009 he took on the role of National Director of Transformation for the NHS, responsible for, amongst other areas, the programme to deliver £20b of efficiency savings whilst improving quality across the whole range of NHS services nationally. He was also responsible for the development of the 111 number, one of the many experiences which led him to take up the role as Chief Executive at Practice Plus Group in 2013.
