Darshak Shah is an acknowledged expert in the NHS commissioning of independent sector health services, patient choice and capacity/productivity expansion. He firmly believes in increasing access to NHS funded services to reduce the waiting list across NHS specialities.

He is a co-founder of Newmedica (#2 provider of NHS funded cataract surgery, now fully owned by Specsavers), advisor to Oviva (digital NHS weight management and diabetes prevention), and co-founder of Paloma Health.

In 2023, he was appointed as an Expert Advisor to the No 10/DHSC Elective Recovery Taskforce, bringing his experience and learnings from ophthalmology to a broader policy setting.
